Residential Care for Mothers and Young Children

Letty Owings Center is a 29-bed residential facility in Portland designed specifically for pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of six. It’s one of the few programs where women can live alongside their children during treatment, helping to reduce the trauma of separation and support family reunification. Most stays last between 14 and 90 days, with a focus on long-term recovery and family healing.

Integrated Mental Health and Addiction Support

Treatment at Letty Owings includes individual and group counseling, medications for addiction treatment (MAT), and support for co-occurring mental health disorders. The program offers trauma-informed care for women with histories of domestic violence, sexual abuse, or other traumas. Parenting classes and life skills training like budgeting, communication, and meal planning, are built into the schedule to support stability beyond treatment.

Onsite Childcare and Holistic Services

Mothers can attend counseling and group therapy while their children are cared for in the facility’s on-site nursery or at nearby partner preschools. Health providers assist with prenatal and postpartum care, and staff offer acupuncture, tobacco cessation support, and transportation assistance. Case managers help with accessing housing, benefits, and long-term recovery planning.

Part of a Nonprofit Recovery Network

Letty Owings Center is part of Central City Concern, a nonprofit organization that supports clients dealing with homelessness and substance use. Through this network, residents gain access to services like primary care, job support, transitional housing, and culturally specific recovery programs, all aimed at building long-term stability.

Affordable and Accessible Care

The center accepts Medicaid, Medicare, and some private insurance. No one is turned away due to inability to pay.
