Anishinaabe-Guided Healing

Mash Ka Wisen Treatment Center, meaning “Be strong and accept help”, weaves Anishinaabe traditions with modern recovery practices. Rooted in cultural identity, the program uses daily ceremonies, talking circles, and Ojibwe language learning to help residents reconnect to heritage as a foundation for healing. These practices promote balance, self-knowledge, and community connection, helping clients find strength in both tradition and recovery.

Integrated and Structured Residential Care

Residents typically participate in a 45–90-day stay with approximately 30 hours of weekly treatment. Services include individual, group, and family counseling, relapse prevention, life-skills training, and health education. The program also supports co-occurring mental health needs and offers medication options when appropriate. Wellbriety and Hazelden are used alongside trauma-informed care, combining cultural and clinical support for sustainable recovery.

Gender-Specific and Community-Based Programs

Separate men’s and women’s programs provide structure and privacy within a culturally affirming environment. Residents live in dorm-style housing with shared spaces for group activities and reflection. The facility’s setting, surrounded by nature, encourages daily mindfulness and grounding. Family involvement, peer mentorship, and participation in cultural events like sobriety feasts, powwows, and community walks extend healing beyond the treatment setting.

Support Beyond Treatment

Mash Ka Wisen emphasizes continued recovery through aftercare planning, case management, and peer mentorship. Transportation assistance and community connections help residents transition successfully to life after treatment. By combining access, tradition, and structured support, the center creates a recovery experience where culture itself becomes prevention, intervention, and long-term care.
