Lakeside-Milam Recovery Centers’ Kirkland Inpatient Residential Program
Overview
Highly structured 28-day residential program for adults that combines daily group therapy and educational lectures with community recovery support. Clients can attend visiting recovery panels and, with approval, off-site 12-Step, Refuge Recovery, or Recovery Dharma meetings. Withdrawal management (detox) with 24-hour nursing is available when determined to be clinically appropriate. Family education, yoga, recreation, and continuing care planning are also included as part of the facility's program. The roughly 80-bed setting has shared rooms and may work best for clients who are comfortable with a larger, community-focused environment. Insurance coverage should be confirmed directly with the facility.

Best fit if: Adults who want substantial structure and group-based treatment; value peer and community recovery support; family members involved in recovery; may need detox prior to entering residential programming; are comfortable with a larger, shared-room treatment environment; significant interaction with peers.
Not a fit if: Adults who prioritize private or luxury accommodations; are looking for a small, intimate residential program; expect frequent one-on-one therapy; are not interested in recovery-support meetings; require higher levels of medical care and attention.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Assessment shapes care: Upon admission and orientation, clients work with their case manager to complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment that covers biological, psychological, and social factors. A nurse, an addiction professional, and a mental health therapist may also participate in this assessment. Answers during this assessment guide the client's treatment plan.
- Plans adjust with progress: The care plan is used by clinical and medical staff to measure progress and can be revised as treatment progresses. The client is consulted when the plan changes.
Who you will meet with
- Clinical team: Clients will have daily and weekly interactions with substance use disorder professionals and case managers. At least one session with a mental health therapist is included during treatment, and clients may choose to meet with their therapist more regularly.
- Medical team: During their stay, all clients will meet with either the medical director or nurse practitioner to complete evaluations and ensure the program safely meets their health needs. Nursing staff are available 24 hours a day to administer medications, monitor vital signs, and provide medical support. Medical detox is overseen by the medical team and typically lasts two to five days.
Typical schedule
- Structured daytime care: Group therapy and educational lectures are held twice a day. During the afternoon, clients have access to recreation and free time, and yoga is offered twice weekly. Education can include nutrition education, relaxation and stress-management techniques, reading assignments, counseling, and physical therapy.
- Evening recovery support: During the evening, clients may attend community recovery panels and, upon approval, attend off-site recovery meetings that may include 12-Step groups, Refuge Recovery, and Recovery Dharma. Transportation is provided by volunteer drivers.
- Family involvement: Family programming is also available and may include teaching loved ones about substance use disorders, their effects on the family, and ways to support both the client and themselves.
Living experiences and amenities
- Living accommodations: Clients stay in rooms with two to three other clients. Some bedrooms may share a Jack-and-Jill-style bathroom with a connected room, though additional private shower and bathroom spaces are available in the facility. This contributes to a more communal environment.
- Campus recreation: The large campus offers a quarter-mile walking trail, volleyball, ping-pong, and outdoor spaces to unwind during downtime.
Aftercare
- Discharge and continuing care: Discharge planning begins while the client is still in care. Clients meet with their counselor to identify early recovery needs and activities to support recovery after completing formal treatment. Continuing care is available through the facility's broader network and may include a 16-bed partial hospitalization program (PHP) for men.
- Alumni community: Alumni programming may include quarterly dinners with speakers, an annual picnic, private online groups, and an alumni app.
Pre-Admissions Experience
We conducted a series of pre-admissions calls, the most recent on August 18, 2026, to evaluate response time, transparency, and patient experience.
When we contacted Lakeside-Milam’s Kirkland program, an admissions representative answered on the first call. They were calm, knowledgeable, and easy to speak with, providing detailed answers without applying sales pressure. They were transparent about costs and what clients can expect from the program.
