Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking treatment for substance use with or without co-occurring mental health conditions, including trauma; looking for residential treatment with pathways to outpatient options within the same facility; wanting programming that includes structured clinical care with group work, family involvement, and other activities.

  • Not a fit if: Adults needing withdrawal management (detox) or hospital-level care; looking for a luxury facility.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Initial clinical assessment: Clinicians consider various factors to determine if Catalina is the appropriate setting and the recommended level of care needed. These can include substance use severity and duration, withdrawal risk, medical and psychiatric needs, safety, functioning, previous treatment, home environment, and social support.
  • Collaboration: Treatment plans are discussed with the client and can change as their needs change.
  • Various treatment approaches: Programming focuses on treating substance use alongside mental health needs. It may include individual, group, and family therapy as well as psychiatric care and medication management when needed.

Who you will meet with

  • Therapists: Clients may meet with various professionals depending on the level of care and their care plan. The team includes therapists who lead individual, group, and family sessions.
  • Medical team: Qualified, licensed medical professionals can manage medications and make adjustments when clinically indicated, and communicate with providers outside of the facility as needed.
  • Psychiatric services: Psychiatric professionals provide support and guidance for clients with co-occurring mental health conditions.
  • Social work and case management: May help plan next steps after discharge and connect clients with outside agencies as needed.

Typical schedule

  • Daily programming: Daily schedules include a combination of clinical treatment, activities, meals, rest, and recreation.

Living experiences and amenities

  • A family-style feel: Residential treatment takes place in a home-like setting with shared living, indoor and outdoor spaces. Meals are provided, and clients can discuss any dietary needs before admission.
  • Recreation: There are various opportunities for exercise and recreation, including exercise and yoga as well as supervised outdoor activities.

Aftercare

  • Discharge planning: The client is involved in aftercare planning. They work with the treatment team to discuss what comes next.
  • Integrated step-down options: Catalina also has a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), and standard outpatient treatment so clients can move from a highly structured setting into progressively less intensive programs instead of leaving treatment abruptly.
  • Additional support: Continuing care can also include ongoing medication management and alumni support.
