Valley Hope of Norton
Overview
Longstanding nonprofit addiction treatment center offering medically monitored detox, residential treatment, outpatient services, and telehealth intensive outpatient programming (IOP) for adults seeking structured recovery in a quieter rural setting. The program uses a 12-step approach along with evidence-based therapies. It includes medication-assisted treatment (MAT), family involvement, and personalized care planning. This helps clients move from detox to residential and outpatient care as their needs change. On-site chaplains and family programming are also available. Who is this facility a good fit for?
- Best fit if: Adults seeking a structured, recovery-focused treatment environment with medically monitored detox, residential treatment, outpatient care, and telehealth IOP under one organization; benefit from predictable schedules, accountability, 12-step recovery, and evidence-based therapies; want optional spiritual support, family involvement, and a quieter rural setting rather than a luxury-focused rehab experience.
- Not a fit if: Individuals seeking luxury amenities, an open-campus or highly flexible environment, or a primarily holistic-only treatment approach; want fully secular programming without spiritual components; or need executive-style accommodations with unrestricted technology access and extensive work flexibility.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Admissions and care planning: A phone screening is completed before arrival to determine insurance verification and intake coordination for level of care. Upon intake, clients complete a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment to evaluate substance use history, mental health, and medical needs. Immediate admission may be available.
- Detox transition and ongoing care planning: Clients completing detox typically spend about 3-4 days in medically monitored detox before continuing on to residential treatment. As individuals improve in stabilization, they work with their care team, and treatment plans evolve depending on clinical progress and counselor input.
Who you will meet with
- Counselors and nursing staff: Based on level of care, clients may meet with on-site nursing staff who help with medications and withdrawal management support. Clients will also meet with counselors throughout treatment as their main point of contact for both individual and group therapy, as well as assessments, treatment planning, and recovery work.
- Clinical, recovery, and support staff: Case managers, chaplains, and support staff help clients throughout treatment with recovery support, discharge planning, and transition coordination. The facility has a deep emphasis on peer connection.
Typical schedule
- Daily structure and programming: Clients can anticipate a highly structured routine that can include a wide range of scheduled programming. Group therapy, lectures, individual counseling, and meetings with counselors or chaplains take place throughout the day, along with relapse prevention work and other treatment focused activities.
- Family programming and visitation: Individuals have the opportunity to progress through recovery with access to a strong family program. On Saturdays between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m., the facility holds family workshops, group therapy, and scheduled visitation.
- 12-step recovery and community support: Treatment leans heavily on 12-step recovery with a focus on peer support, accountability, shared group participation, and recovery education as a part of the facility's daily routine.
Living experiences and amenities
- Living environment and community spaces: Clients stay in shared, community-oriented spaces in a quiet rural setting. Meals are prepared and served in a shared dining hall. The Patient Living Center is available to support downtime activities with reclining chairs, TV, puzzles, books, and computers for handling logistics or personal finances.
- Structured campus and recovery environment: This facility operates as a closed-campus treatment program designed to keep clients focused on their recovery. Visitation is scheduled, and there are rules regarding personal electronics and outside distractions.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning and continuing care: Continued recovery planning is ongoing. Case managers work with clients throughout treatment to plan next steps. Continuing care can include outpatient treatment, aftercare planning, and referrals to additional recovery or community-based support.
- Recovery support and relapse prevention: A core focus on recovery support stays consistent throughout treatment and includes relapse prevention, peer support, and long-term recovery planning. Clients may also be connected to self-help groups, community resources, housing support services, and other recovery-focused programs.
