Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults seeking a structured residential program with medical support; who may need medical detox before residential care; comfortable with 12-Step programming being integrated into treatment; who may benefit from a disconnected treatment environment with no general phone or internet access; seeking a residential program with outpatient step-down options; who are comfortable with a larger facility; Veterans and first responders.
Not a fit if: Adults seeking treatment primarily for mental health challenges rather than substance use; needing skilled nursing; wanting unrestricted access to a phone, computer, or internet; wanting frequent in-person family visits; looking for a program that uses a non-12-Step recovery model; looking for a smaller, intimate program.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Pre-admission evaluation: Treatment begins with a free, confidential pre-admission evaluation via phone to help clinicians determine the appropriate approach to treatment.
- Individual care plans: Clinical teams make treatment recommendations based on various factors, such as what substances the person is using, their substance use history, and other aspects of their clinical history. On-site detox services are available if needed prior to entering residential care.
- A variety of approaches: Substance use treatment is the central clinical focus, but various approaches to treatment are used. Clients can participate in individual, group, and family counseling as well as programming that focuses on relapse prevention and substance use education. Willingway also offers a Tactical Recovery Program specifically for veterans and first responders.
Who you will meet with
- Individual therapist: Clients meet with a personal therapist during the week.
- Counselors and therapists: Other providers on the team may facilitate group therapy sessions.
- Medical staff: Medical oversight, medication management, and detox are supervised by a medical team that includes a physician, physician assistants, and 24/7 nursing care.
Typical schedule
- Structured days: A typical routine includes scheduled meals, multiple groups throughout the day, as well as 12-Step meetings and educational programming. Clients meet with their personal counselors throughout the week. There are more groups in the evening, with recreation and downtime planned between scheduled activities.
- Substantial group participation: Clients attend a variety of groups, including those focused on substance use and mental health. There are also gender-specific groups, recreational groups, and groups focused on Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) practices and the 12 Steps.
Living experiences and amenities
- A quiet 11-acre wooded campus: The facility offers outdoor activities on the wooded grounds, which include a pond and walking trails.
- Other recreational activities: Additional on-site activities include a pool, jacuzzi, half-basketball court, volleyball area, and fitness facilities.
- Limited family contact: In-person visitation is not permitted, though family therapy is available via Zoom during the final week of treatment. Patients can send and receive letters and have scheduled phone calls once a week. There is no general phone or internet access during residential treatment.
Aftercare
- An intensive outpatient program: The IOP meets four days a week for three hours a day. It includes drug screens, education, and community outreach as well as individual, group, and family therapy.
- Sober living support: Willingway offers sober living environments as a step between residential care and greater independence, with lengths of stay of up to 12 months. Gender-specific programs and education focused on life skills and financial management are available. While in sober living, clients have the opportunity to return to work or school, and there are opportunities to get involved in community service.
- Weekly support groups: Alumni, families, and community members can attend support groups in towns across the region.
