Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions who may need to transition to outpatient care after hospitalization; children and teens needing inpatient psychiatric treatment while remaining engaged in school; or families who want to be involved in treatment and discharge planning.
Not a fit if: Adults seeking a luxury experience or a program focused primarily on substance use treatment and long-term recovery rather than psychiatric stabilization.
What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Initial assessment: Free, confidential assessments are available around the clock, and the facility offers mobile assessment services that can be conducted at home, in schools, hospitals, or other community settings. A psychiatrist reviews each assessment before admission recommendations are made.
- Collaborative treatment planning: A comprehensive assessment is completed upon admission and used to guide an individualized treatment plan. Planning is collaborative across multiple disciplines rather than being directed by a therapist alone.
- A combination of approaches: Care is tailored to each client's needs and may include a combination of psychiatric care, counseling, skills practice, and therapeutic activities. For example, treatment plans may combine evidence-based therapies, such as CBT and EMDR, with experiential therapies, such as recreation therapy and art therapy.
Who you will meet with
- Medical team: The medical team includes a psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioners who manage medications, and psychiatric nurses who provide direct care.
- Therapists: Individual therapists, group therapists, and family therapists are all part of the treatment team.
- Daily support staff: Mental health technicians and recreational therapists support inpatient clients during everyday activities.
- Youth support: Licensed teachers, including special education teachers, help children and adolescents continue their education while in treatment.
Typical schedule
- Daily structure: In the inpatient program, clients begin each day with structured therapy and group sessions. Individual therapy, recreational therapy, and skill-building groups are scheduled throughout the day, along with time for breaks and reflection.
- Throughout treatment: Family therapy, psychiatric care, and medication management are integrated throughout the day as needed based on each client's treatment plan. Recreation is also incorporated into the daily schedule.
- For kids and teens: Academic instruction is integrated into treatment days for children and adolescents.
Living experiences and amenities
- Access to green spaces and recreation: The 65-acre campus sits next to the Arkansas River and offers outdoor spaces, walking trails, and recreation areas. Clients can also use the on-site fitness center and basketball court.
- Comfortable accommodations: Clients in the inpatient program stay in private or shared air-conditioned bedrooms, and the facility is wheelchair accessible.
- Family involvement: Clients and the care team work closely with family members throughout treatment, encouraging loved ones to participate in both treatment and discharge planning.
Aftercare
- Discharge planning throughout treatment: Planning for the transition out of treatment begins shortly after admission and evolves as clients' needs change. Aftercare planning often includes referrals to outpatient services and community resources.
- Continuity of care: Valley Behavioral Health offers multiple levels of care, allowing clients to transition between inpatient, PHP, IOP, and outpatient services within the same organization. Continued medical follow-up is available as needed.
