Rural Campus Designed for Men’s Recovery

Located on a 35-acre rural campus in Poteau, Oklahoma, The Pines of Poteau offers a quieter space away from daily triggers. Adult men stay in home-like cottages with private bedrooms and shared kitchens, living rooms, and bathrooms. Walking paths, natural landscaping, and a reflection pond encourage time outdoors, while a central recreation hall with dining, fitness, media, and game areas supports a structured daily routine.

Integrated Community Health and Substance Use Care

The Pines is part of Stigler Health and Wellness Center, a large rural community health center that combines medical, behavioral health, and substance use services. Clients can benefit from integrated primary care, behavioral health counseling, and psychiatry, along with screenings for medical concerns and vaccinations.

Residential Treatment and Outpatient Support

Within this network, The Pines provides 24/7 staffed residential substance use treatment for adult men 18 and older in a structured, supportive environment. The broader Health and Wellness Center also offers outpatient substance use services, including individual, group, and family counseling, with telehealth options available for many services. When needed, staff can help clients access medical withdrawal management (detox) before starting residential care and plan step-down care afterward.

Therapies, Medications, and Trauma-Informed Care

Treatment plans are individualized and may include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, brief interventions, and substance use counseling. The program offers medications for addiction treatment (MAT) for opioid and alcohol use disorders, along with psychiatric medication management. Trauma-related counseling is available, including support for people who have experienced sexual abuse, intimate partner violence, or other trauma, as well as those with co-occurring mental health and substance use concerns or gambling and other addictive disorders.

Skills, Supports, and Life After Treatment

Services can include life-skills development, vocational training or educational support, and employment counseling or training. Case management helps clients navigate housing, social services, and other practical needs. Recovery coaches and peer recovery support specialists share lived experience and offer mentorship. Self-help groups, social skills development, wellness activities, and aftercare and discharge planning are paired with naloxone and overdose education and follow-up after discharge to support long-term recovery.
