Women’s Residential Treatment with a Practical Focus

Gateway Recovery Center provides a structured and supportive residential setting for women, including those with co-occurring mental health needs. Care combines evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational enhancement therapy (MET), EMDR, and mindfulness with a 12-Step foundation. As a nonprofit under Harbor House, Inc., the center emphasizes accessibility and compassion, helping clients develop real-world coping skills that support life beyond treatment.

Specialized Programming for Mothers and Pregnant Women

A 60–75-day program supports pregnant women and mothers with children up to age six. Residents live together in on-site family housing with fenced play areas, childcare services, and parenting education. Coordinated access to medical care, transportation, and job-skills training allows mothers to stay engaged in recovery while maintaining their caregiving roles. The program helps both parent and child establish safety and stability within a recovery-focused environment.

Structure, Safety, and Daily Life

The Fort Smith campus is gated and staffed 24 hours a day, offering a consistent routine that balances therapy, community meetings, and personal time. Clients participate in individual and group counseling, recovery meetings, and optional spiritual or secular support groups. The structured schedule reinforces accountability while allowing space for reflection, education, and rebuilding self-confidence through achievable daily goals.

Transitional Living and Long-Term Support

Transitional living extends recovery in a chemical-free, community-oriented environment. Women live in single, double, or triple-occupancy rooms with study space and shared lounges while working or attending school. Step-down care connects clients to outpatient and intensive outpatient programs across the Harbor House network, creating a continuum of support. Additional wraparound services, like housing assistance, case management, transportation, vocational training, and health education, help women sustain recovery and rebuild secure, independent lives.
