Dual Diagnosis Focus for Men in an Urban Setting

Based in Chicago’s West Loop, this program is designed for men managing both a serious mental illness and a substance use disorder. The residential unit offers up to three months of structured care, led by licensed clinicians with direct psychiatric involvement. This dual-focus approach allows clients to stabilize symptoms while working toward sobriety in a setting that balances medical oversight with therapeutic support.

Medically Monitored Detox and Therapies

For many, treatment begins with 24/7 withdrawal management under physician and nursing care. Once stabilized, clients transition into evidence-based therapies including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, trauma counseling, relapse prevention, and 12-step facilitation. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT), such as buprenorphine and naltrexone, are integrated for those addressing opioid or alcohol use disorders.

Whole-Person Care and Life Skills

Alongside therapy, the program provides primary care services, vaccinations, and HIV and hepatitis C testing. Transportation assistance helps clients attend medical appointments beyond the facility. Recovery education, vocational training, and employment counseling prepare participants for independent living and financial stability after treatment. Special programming supports veterans, older adults, and individuals with trauma histories or justice system involvement.

Step-Down Support and Community Connection

Haymarket Center emphasizes continuity of care. Clients can move into outpatient services or a men’s recovery home focused on job readiness and life skills, with yearlong recovery coaching that tapers as confidence builds.
