Outpatient Care in the Heart of Chicago

McDermott Center/Haymarket Ctr – Outpatient is based in Chicago’s West Loop, making it accessible to people across the city. The facility offers two main levels of care, including intensive outpatient care with nine or more hours three to five days weekly, and regular outpatient counseling for those stepping down or newly assessed at this level. Sessions may be held virtually to improve access, and a specialized DUI/DWI program is available for court-involved clients.

Whole-Person and Integrated Health Services

Treatment here combines evidence-based therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, trauma counseling, and 12-step facilitation. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) are available, with coordination for those prescribed elsewhere. The program integrates behavioral health with primary care, offering vaccinations, health education, and comprehensive testing for conditions including HIV, hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections, and tuberculosis. This approach helps ensure recovery is supported by strong overall health.

Accessible and Affordable

Haymarket removes many of the barriers that make treatment hard to start or maintain. Clients can be admitted any time of day with no wait for assessment. Transportation assistance is available for those who need help getting to the facility. As a nonprofit provider, the center accepts Medicaid, commercial insurance, and self-pay, and offers a sliding-fee scale so that no one is turned away for lack of funds. Outpatient services are part of Haymarket’s wider continuum of care, which also includes detox, residential treatment, and recovery housing.

Recovery Supports and Inclusive Programs

Support continues well beyond therapy sessions. Peer recovery coaching provides structured follow-up for up to a year, helping clients build confidence and resilience in daily life. Additional services include vocational training, housing support, naloxone and overdose education, and mentoring. Programs are available for women, men, veterans, older adults, and those with co-occurring conditions. Care is also offered in Spanish, Polish, and American Sign Language, ensuring services are accessible to Chicago’s diverse communities.
