Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults who need structured substance use treatment without a residential stay; need treatment for co-occurring mental health conditions or trauma; want flexible scheduling so they can continue daily responsibilities; have private insurance, TRICARE, or can self pay.

  • Not a fit if: Those who need acute hospital-level care or withdrawal management (detox); require 24/7 residential structure; don’t wish to explore the mental health components of recovery; want fully self-directed care; have Medicaid, or are uninsured and unable to self pay.

What to expect

Typical schedule

  • Partial hospitalization (PHP): In this most intensive level of outpatient care, clients go to the center from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m from Monday to Friday for deep therapeutic work. They return home or to sober living in the evenings and on weekends.
  • Intensive outpatient (IOP): The midway point between PHP and standard outpatient sessions, IOP runs Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. The morning session is held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while the evening session is from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. This gives clients a choice of what works better for their schedule.
  • Virtual IOP: Clients have the option to attend IOP sessions through telehealth.
  • Standard outpatient: This is the lowest intensity of outpatient care, meeting between one and three times per week. This allows clients maximum flexibility and independence to transition back to independent life.
  • Treatment approaches: Clients participate in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). They have the option of participating in 12-step meetings or non-12-step meetings. Sessions also include personal development, mindfulness, and neuroscience methods.

Developing your care plan

  • Detailed assessments: Staff take time to assess clients’ full medical, substance use, and mental health history. Based on the results, clinicians and clients work together to shape treatment to fit client needs.
  • Changes based on progress: Care plans are reassessed frequently to make sure everything is working well. Clients can move up or down through treatment levels as their needs change.

Who you will meet with

  • Therapists: Master’s-level clinicians lead individual and group therapy sessions. The number of sessions depends on care level (PHP, IOP, or regular outpatient) and personal treatment plans.
  • Psychiatrists: Psychiatrists help clients get to the root mental health concerns behind their substance use, and manage medications for both withdrawal symptoms and mental health.
  • Case managers: These professionals assist clients with practical day-to-day needs such as housing and employment concerns. .

“Having someone who has a lot of exposure to not only the medical side, but the psychiatric side, and is able to marry both of those disciplines seamlessly, I think it makes us stand apart and allows us to diagnose people more effectively and find a treatment plan that's best for them.” — Manny Nsien, CEO of Ripple Ranch Recovery

Aftercare

  • Movement along a full continuum care: Clients can move up or down between PHP, IOP, and regular outpatient treatment, depending on their progress. If they need a higher level of care, residential treatment and withdrawal management (detox) are available in the same care network. This allows for smooth transitions.
  • Long-term support: Staff can set clients up with continuing medication management, local 12-step or non-12-step support groups, and ongoing one-on-one therapy. They also provide relapse prevention education.
  • Alumni: The center’s alumni program holds weekly get-togethers, client check-ins, and community events where peers can stay connected.

“We like to start case management engagement at the point of them arriving… so they can seek success post-treatment.” — Manny Nsien, CEO of Continuum Outpatient Center
