Court-Referred Residential Program in Portland

The Men’s Residential Center (MRC) provides admission through Multnomah County courts or Federal Probation/Parole. The program combines substance use treatment with outpatient mental health services, offering a structured environment where men begin recovery and prepare for long-term reentry into the community.

Phased Treatment Model with Skill Building

Treatment is structured in three phases. The first phase is a 17-week curriculum centered on relapse prevention, anger management, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, trauma-related counseling, and 12-step facilitation. The second phase emphasizes practicing these skills through vocational training, pro-social activities, and family reconnection. Education on health topics and tobacco cessation is also integrated to support broader well-being.

Transitional Housing and Aftercare Support

Graduates may move into rent-free transitional housing at the nearby Sacramento Recovery House, giving them time to save money and secure stable housing. Following residential treatment, men continue with six months of outpatient aftercare. Services include mentoring, peer support, employment counseling, and case management, all designed to strengthen independence and recovery in daily life.

Resources and Populations Served

MRC provides individual, group, and family counseling, alongside suicide prevention, integrated primary care coordination, and housing support. The program serves men of different ages, including veterans and those with co-occurring disorders, chronic pain, HIV/AIDS, gambling disorder, or trauma histories. Care is offered by Volunteers of America, a nonprofit organization focused on recovery and reintegration through housing, employment, and community support.
