Integrated Substance Use and Mental Health Care
ShareHouse’s Fargo campus is a nonprofit treatment center that offers care for adults with substance use disorders and co-occurring mental health disorders. Some clients come for addiction treatment, some for mental health concerns, and many for both, allowing one cohesive team to address how these challenges interact.
Treatment University and Daily Structure
A defining feature of the program is its Treatment University model. Clients live in gender-specific residential buildings, sharing fully furnished apartments with up to four people. Each day follows a structured schedule that may include community meetings, individual counseling, core groups with nursing, mental health, or case management staff, and 12-step or other recovery meetings. With more than 20 group types available, clients can work on topics like anger, relapse prevention, trauma, and daily living skills in ways that match their needs and stage of recovery.
Medications and Evidence-Based Therapies
ShareHouse combines medications for addiction treatment (MAT) with evidence-based therapies. Clinicians can use medications for opioid and alcohol use disorders, along with medication options that support mental health. Treatment draws on approaches like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, contingency management, the Matrix Model, substance use counseling, and 12-step work. For mental health, an onsite clinical psychologist offers diagnostic and cognitive testing, helping clarify conditions and guiding tailored care.
Apartment-Style Living with Everyday Comforts
Residential treatment takes place in an apartment-style setting. Men and women stay in separate buildings while sharing cafeterias and common spaces. Bedrooms and shared apartments include air conditioning, desks, sofas, TVs, kitchenettes, shared bathrooms, and personal storage. On-site amenities such as a wellness room, fitness center, arts and crafts space, gaming and computer centers, a relaxation lounge, and a reading room create places to unwind and build routines with peers in recovery.
Practical Support During and After Treatment
Case managers help clients navigate housing services, supportive housing, and other social services. Transportation assistance can make it easier to get to appointments, especially when moving between residential, day treatment, outpatient, virtual care, and sober living. Education covers health, substance use, HIV and hepatitis, and tobacco cessation. Discharge planning, naloxone and overdose education, aftercare, and outcome follow-up support the transition back to independent living.
