Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults needing medically supervised withdrawal management; seeking support in figuring out what kind of treatment they need next; returning to treatment after a relapse and needing their treatment strategy reassessed; seeking support for substance use and co-occurring mental health concerns; looking for a quiet, homelike setting rather than a hospital environment.

  • Not a fit if: Adults seeking direct pathways to outpatient care or sober living; looking for a traditional hospital inpatient environment; wanting to drive themselves to treatment.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Initial steps: Admissions staff meet with clients to talk about their needs and concerns and answer questions, and then they schedule the first visit. When clients arrive, staff provide a brief tour, introduce the care team, and then discuss the care plan. Care plans can change as the team learns more about the client's circumstances, challenges, and goals. Short-term residential treatment is also available after withdrawal management when appropriate.
  • Withdrawal management: Comprehensive medical and psychiatric assessments help clinicians understand clients' needs to ensure they receive appropriate treatment. Medical professionals provide 24/7 supervision and manage withdrawal symptoms, focusing on physical stabilization.
  • Next-step planning: Assessment and treatment placement are central to care. Staff recommend the next phase of treatment based on assessment findings to create specific recommendations for aftercare.

Who you will meet with

  • Medical staff: Medical professionals, including nurses and nurse practitioners, are available 24/7 during withdrawal management.
  • Counselors: Counselors lead groups on various topics, including medication education and recovery concepts. Clients who have co-occurring mental health concerns may also attend individual therapy sessions.
  • Case management staff: Case managers help connect clients with outside programs and plan their next steps after treatment.

Typical schedule

  • Friday spirituality groups: On Friday afternoons, clients attend spirituality groups and explore the idea of a power greater than oneself.
  • Saturday 12-Step groups: Clients participate in 12-Step groups on Saturdays. The primary focus is on foundational recovery principles, without affiliation with a specific organization.
  • Recovery concepts: The facility offers a 6-week curriculum that addresses the roots of addiction as well as relapse prevention, emotional regulation, and positive self-concept.
  • Other groups: Process groups during the week give clients an opportunity to discuss thoughts, emotions, and experiences with their peers. Clients also participate in art groups, completing projects focused on recovery, such as past/present/future collages and inside/outside masks. Medication education groups focus on the stabilization process, withdrawal symptoms, and possible side effects.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Residential care: For clients in the short-term residential program, single and double rooms are available. Each room has an en suite bathroom. Communal spaces include a main living room, a fully stocked kitchen and pantry, a dining area, and a library.
  • Transportation: Clients are not permitted to drive to treatment themselves. The facility arranges pickups within 50 miles of the facility. A friend or family member can also bring clients to treatment. At discharge, staff can coordinate pickup with the next provider if the client is transferring directly to another program.

Aftercare

  • A bridge to continued treatment: Valiant offers withdrawal management and short-term housing for some clients and refers clients to the next appropriate level of care. Aftercare can also include ongoing therapy, support groups, and other resources based on the clients’ needs.
