Residential Support for Adults with Serious Mental Illness

Adult residential programs focus on adults whose symptoms make it hard to live independently. Intensive Residential Treatment Services (IRTS) provide a community-based, medically monitored, highly structured setting where daily programming builds daily living abilities and overall functioning. Transitional options, such as the START Living program, offer a co-ed residence with 24-hour staff support. Staff help clients practice daily living activities, take medications as prescribed, build social skills, and connect with community resources so they can move toward more independent housing at a realistic pace.

Youth Residential Care

Youth residential services are designed for adolescents whose needs cannot be safely or effectively managed at home, often in the context of trauma, chaotic environments, or serious mental illness. Before admission, the team completes a thorough assessment to recommend the least restrictive appropriate level of care. While in the program, young people may receive individual, family, and group therapy, psychiatric services, case management, nursing, and educational support. Services are designed to help youth build trust, strengthen self-esteem, and stay engaged in their treatment.

Housing and Life Skills

Beyond traditional residential facilities, Brightli offers community housing options that pair stable housing with practical support. The STEPS program places clients in independent apartments throughout the Springfield community, with three levels of assistance for those who need intensive support but not the structure of semi-independent apartments or residential care. Additional housing serves low-income clients with psychiatric disabilities, including those with recent histories of homelessness. Residential specialists are available around the clock for crisis management and problem solving, while community support focuses on life skills and navigating everyday challenges of living independently.

Connected Services and Community Partnerships

Therapy and counseling are offered in a collaborative setting. Children, adolescents, and adults can access individual therapy, with family therapy available when helpful. Group therapy gives clients the chance to learn from peers and practice new skills in a supportive environment. Brightli emphasizes accessibility by using telehealth to bring prescribers to rural communities and by partnering with schools, health systems, and community organizations.
