A Step-Down Continuum from Detox to Outpatient

The center is built around a step-down philosophy: more structure early on, then gradually less as clients build stability and independence. Services include withdrawal management (detox), residential treatment, and outpatient care, including intensive outpatient programming (IOP). Outpatient services are offered in phases and are scheduled during daytime or evening hours, which can help clients keep up with work, school, and family responsibilities while staying connected to recovery support.

Co-Occurring Mental Health Support

Project Turnabout can treat clients with co-occurring disorders, with each client seen by a licensed mental health professional at intake. Mental health services include psychological evaluations, treatment plan-directed individual therapy, and access to psychiatric telemedicine. The clinical approach also includes evidence-based therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT)-informed care, motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, and trauma-related counseling. Clients participate in a mix of individual counseling, group therapy, family education, and daily psychoeducational lectures, alongside mindfulness and meditation practices.

12-Step Foundation With Skill-Building for Everyday Life

Programming is framed around 12-step facilitation, with on-site recovery meetings and ongoing peer support. Beyond therapy, the center emphasizes practical tools that can make recovery more sustainable in daily life: coping and living skills, recovery management skills, healthy relationship education, and effective parenting skills. Additional support such as case management, help accessing social services, education and health education services, and vocational training can be especially helpful for clients rebuilding routines and stability after treatment.

Transitional Housing and Ongoing Connection After Treatment

The center also offers transitional housing in Marshall, Minnesota, with apartment-style living arrangements and structured daily programming (typically 60–180 days). Alumni and family support includes a post-treatment system of care and opportunities for ongoing connection through resources and community events. Transportation assistance is also available, which can reduce a common barrier to staying engaged in care and follow-up support.
