Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adolescents ages 12-17 with a primary substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health concerns; families who want high involvement during residential treatment in a small program; youth in need of 24/7 supervision that also want to continue making academic progress; adolescents who may need medical detox before residential programming

  • Not a fit if: Adults or young adults over 17; youth in need of mental health support without a substance use disorder; families seeking extensive luxury amenities or experiential therapies; those looking for long-term residential treatment.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Individualized treatment planning: Within the first three days of admission, clients undergo a detailed clinical assessment with their assigned primary therapist that includes substance use history, medical history, mental health history, academic performance, peer relationships, and previous treatment experiences. This becomes the basis for the client’s Master Treatment Plan.
  • Family involvement: Families have the opportunity to actively participate in developing the client's care plan. This involves being included throughout treatment, asked for input during regular clinical meetings, involved in major care decisions, kept informed about progress, and included in discharge planning. Families also have the opportunity for weekly visits on Sundays from 1-3 p.m.
  • Continued assessment: Care plans are reviewed and updated at least every two weeks. During these reviews, the treatment team assesses progress, modifies objectives, and updates treatment priorities.

Who you will meet with

  • Medical providers: During treatment, clients will work with a medical team consisting of psychiatrists, a medical director, registered nurses, and licensed practical nurses. They provide support during weekly psychiatry appointments for patients taking medication as well as medication administration and monitoring during detox and the client's stay. The medical director completes medical evaluations, history and physicals, and continued medical follow-up.
  • Therapists and counselors: The therapy team consists of licensed therapists and certified substance abuse counselors who lead daily group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy as needed or requested. In addition to an assigned therapist who oversees the client’s care plan, a designated family therapist is also assigned.
  • Education and daily support: Clients will also work with an experienced on-site educator with about 20 years of teaching experience and behavioral health associates who support the clients during daily activities and programs.

Typical schedule

  • Weekly therapy schedule: Each week during treatment, clients take part in about six hours of clinical group therapy, two individual therapy sessions with their assigned therapist, one family or parent therapy session, and daily experiential therapeutic activities.
  • Academic support: In addition to therapeutic programming, clients take part in a dedicated two-hour academic block each day with an experienced educator who works directly with the client's home school to maintain academic progress. Coursework may be completed through Edmentum virtual learning, the client’s home school's online platform, paper assignments mailed from school, and visits from homebound teachers if determined to be appropriate. Clients use secured Chromebooks during academic programming.
  • Recovery support meetings: After school and dinner, clients attend in-house recovery support meetings such as Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), or SMART Recovery, or participate in supervised community-based recovery meetings.
  • Creative arts and recreation: Clients also have the ability to take part in a two-hour evidence-based creative arts group that may include painting, collage, drama, skits, and other performance-based therapeutic activities. Recreation is included as well, with scheduled gym access three times a week.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Room accommodations: Clients stay in single or shared rooms with one other client. The single rooms are available to support medical or safety accommodations. Each room shares a Jack-and-Jill bathroom. Rooms are gender-specific, and roommates are no more than two years apart in age
  • Environment: The facility is designed to be homelike and it includes therapy spaces, dining facilities, recreation spaces, and a central courtyard.

Aftercare

  • Discharge planning: Clients begin discharge planning during treatment. This includes family participation, relapse prevention planning, and transition planning.
