Integrated care for substance use, mental health, or both

Icarus offers programming for substance use, mental health conditions, and co-occurring disorders. Mental health professionals, addiction counselors, medical staff, and therapists collaborate to treat co-occurring conditions together rather than approaching them separately. The program includes ongoing monitoring for changes in mental health or signs of relapse, client education, and support groups where clients can connect with others who are dealing with similar challenges. MAT is available when clinically appropriate.

A full continuum of care integrating the New Mexico surroundings

Programming covers a full range of care, including inpatient withdrawal management and psychiatric stabilization, residential treatment, a partial hospitalization program (PHP), an intensive outpatient program (IOP), outpatient programming, and continuing care. Evidence-based clinical treatment is integrated with whole-body wellness, including opportunities to hike in the New Mexico landscape and attend local art shows to experience Southwestern culture.

Treatment combines a neutral spiritual philosophy with multiple recovery approaches

The facility provides a spiritually neutral environment rather than requiring clients to follow one religious or spiritual path. This philosophy extends from inpatient treatment through aftercare and into the alumni program. Clients can participate in various established recovery approaches, including SMART Recovery and 12-Step facilitation.

Case management for practical support

Each client works with a dedicated case manager who can help manage personal, professional, and legal matters and develop a plan for transitioning out of structured care and into an outpatient program when necessary. Staff can also provide support with housing and social services, employment counseling or training, and transportation assistance. Alumni may also participate in recovery coaching, and mentoring and peer support may be available.

Client reviews

Reviews most often praise the program’s recovery support, caring staff, and sense of community. A smaller but recurring set of reviews raises concerns about communication, staffing, and follow-through.

  • Treatment quality & outcomes (95% positive): Many clients describe gaining practical recovery tools, greater self-understanding, and progress toward sobriety. Some reviewers wanted more individual therapy or additional coping-skills programming. "Icarus has changed my view on recovery."
  • Staff & care experience (90% positive): Reviewers frequently describe counselors and support staff as caring, knowledgeable, and attentive. Some clients and families report inconsistent responsiveness or interactions that felt disrespectful. "The counselors were very helpful and compassionate."
  • Facility & environment (85% positive): Reviewers frequently praise the comfortable accommodations, meals, and welcoming residential setting. A smaller number of reviews mention concerns about room arrangements or other aspects of the living environment.
  • Support & community (90% positive): Many clients value the encouragement they received from peers and staff and describe feeling connected during treatment. Some reviews suggest family communication and support could be more consistent. "I came through the program and everyone treated me like family."
  • Access & process Experiences with admissions and coordination are mixed. Some reviewers describe responsive help, while others report difficulty reaching staff, delayed callbacks, transportation issues, or confusion about services and follow-up.
