Women-only residential addiction treatment program that combines clinical treatment with vocational development and independent living skills. The program follows 3 phases: stabilization, primary treatment, and re-entry into the community. It uses a 12-Step recovery approach that supports clients as they work toward greater stability in daily life. Admission is prioritized for pregnant women. The program serves people experiencing homelessness, unemployment, or financial barriers to private treatment. Services are offered regardless of a person's ability to pay.

Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Women, including pregnant women, who seek a longer residential treatment experience; who are experiencing housing or financial instability; who want recovery support alongside vocational development; who want a program that uses 12-Step programming as its primary recovery model; who are looking for a peer-based community.
  • Not a fit if: Men; women who need on-site medically supervised withdrawal management (detox); who want luxury, resort-style accommodations; who prefer a non-12-Step treatment model; who want a short, fixed-duration program.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Initial assessment and screenings: Initial assessments may cover general health, mental health, withdrawal potential, relapse risk, and readiness for change. Substance use screening and laboratory testing may also help determine if the program is the right fit.
  • Individualized treatment planning: Treatment focuses on 3 phases: stabilization, primary treatment, and re-entry. Care plans are individualized, and pregnancy, mental health needs, and housing instability affect planning. Clients and their families can be involved in care planning.

Who you will meet with

  • Clinical staff: Counselors and clinical staff provide various services, including individual, family, and group therapy and substance use disorder counseling and relapse prevention.
  • Case management: Case managers may offer support with finding housing and accessing food, social services, and other resources.

Typical schedule

  • Daily programming: Clients attend structured daily programming, including counseling. Programming also focuses on relapse prevention, developing independent living skills, and preparing for work or school.
  • Intensive stabilization phase: During the first 14 to 30 days, clients have limited contact with people outside of the facility. In this phase, clients gain insight into their substance use, and staff observe how they are adjusting. This phase includes about 20 hours a week of medium-intensity clinical and recovery-focused services.
  • Primary treatment: The next phase is the primary treatment phase. Clients learn to apply recovery skills, use strategies to prevent relapse, improve emotional regulation, and prepare to return to work, school, and family obligations.
  • Re-entry: The third phase is the re-entry or transition phase. Clients work toward employment, vocational training, or further education.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Community-based environment: Grace House operates 24/7 and offers structured programming. The program emphasizes a community-based environment centered on dignity, respect, and personal responsibility.

Aftercare

  • Transitional care built into treatment: The third phase of treatment at Grace House focuses on building the skills needed to transition out of residential treatment, with a particular focus on seeking or obtaining employment, vocational training, and education.
  • Aftercare services: Discharge planning may include naloxone and overdose education, referrals to peer support, and assistance with housing and other social services.

Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities

CARF reviews rehab programs to make sure they provide respectful, effective, and personalized care. For addiction treatment, CARF uses standards developed with the American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM), so this accreditation shows the program follows trusted, evidence-based guidelines for treating substance use.

How we research treatment facilities

Across the site, our team has conducted over 1,000 pre-admissions calls to better understand the patient experience, interviewed facility clinical leaders, performed facility background checks, and compared our information against trusted public data sources.

Our research process begins with data from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), accrediting bodies including The Joint Commission and CARF, government licensing agencies, and other trusted sources. From there, our team conducts significant original research, including:

- Pre-admissions calls: We speak with admissions staff to get a candid picture of patient experience.

- Background checks: We review complaints from past clients, media reports, actions taken by accrediting bodies, and positive recognition from notable organizations.

- Clinical interviews: We have in-depth conversations with clinical leadership, often lasting up to one hour, that give us a better understanding of clinical care.

- Data partnerships: We ingest and analyze exclusive data that provides information about in-network insurance status, cost, and more.

Research varies by facility. Each facility profile shows which research steps we completed and when each step was last performed. Learn more about our research process and background checks.

How we evaluate treatment facilities

These data help us develop a Trust Score for each facility—a simple letter grade that helps you assess how much confidence to place in a facility based on the information available to us. Trust Score considers accreditation, operating history, notable recognition, and concerns identified during our background check. Our Trust Score is an objective rating that is never influenced by advertiser payment. Learn more about our Trust Score methodology.
