Community-Focused, Mission-Driven Care

Responsibility House is a private, nonprofit treatment center in Gretna that has supported the Greater New Orleans community since 1994. Initially founded to help adults address substance use challenges, the center now offers housing and support for individuals experiencing homelessness, mental illness, or HIV/AIDS. Its programs are guided by core values of honesty, accountability, and compassion, with licensed counselors and case managers providing care that strengthens both recovery and community connection.

Structured Residential Program for Men

The three-month residential program uses cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and 12-step facilitation in a structured, supportive setting. In the first phase, participants learn about addiction, develop relapse-prevention strategies, and build a foundation for sobriety. In the second phase, clients apply recovery tools while maintaining employment, a key part of the program’s emphasis on accountability and self-sufficiency. Family education and individual sessions help strengthen relationships and reinforce recovery beyond treatment.

Outpatient Pathways for Continuing Recovery

Adults who need flexible support can access two outpatient levels. The standard outpatient track (1–3 hours weekly for eight weeks) reinforces early recovery goals and relapse-prevention skills. The intensive outpatient program provides greater structure with at least four sessions per week, each lasting three hours. Both options emphasize education, peer support, and personalized guidance. There is no charge for initial consultations, ensuring accessibility for those exploring treatment options.

Supportive Housing and Real-World Services

Responsibility House’s supportive housing programs operate under a Housing First model, recognizing that stable housing is foundational to lasting recovery. Clients receive individualized case management, transportation, peer mentoring, and employment assistance to reduce barriers to stability. The organization also provides HIV and hepatitis education and testing, suicide-prevention resources, and social-skills development. This whole-person approach helps individuals transition from treatment into safe, sustainable, and fulfilling lives within their community.
