Acute and Sub-Acute Psychiatric Residential Care

Southern Peaks RTC is a licensed psychiatric residential treatment facility for youth ages 10 to 18 with significant emotional, social, behavioral, and psychiatric needs that meet medical necessity criteria. The program offers both acute and sub-acute levels of care, providing a structured, predictable setting for adolescents working toward stabilization and a step down to a less restrictive environment.

Interdisciplinary, Family-Involved Treatment Planning

Treatment is organized around an interdisciplinary team approach, with active participation from the adolescent and family alongside clinical, nursing, psychiatric, and education staff, as well as relevant outside partners involved in placement and schooling. Services include individual, group, and family therapy, social skills development, psychological and psychiatric support, and medical/psychotropic interventions when clinically appropriate.

Trauma-Focused and Experiential Therapies

Clinical modalities include trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR). The program also offers equine-assisted therapy and recreation therapy, using hands-on activities to build coping skills, frustration tolerance, emotional awareness, and healthier peer interaction. Co-occurring substance use treatment is available, and medication support may be used when clinically indicated.

School, Life Skills, and Practical Transition Support

Education services are integrated into care, including special academic support aligned with Individualized education programs, credit recovery, year-round schooling, and GED opportunities for qualifying candidates. A structured life skills curriculum focuses on areas such as health and nutrition, money management, housing and home management, and risk prevention. Discharge planning and transportation assistance help support continuity of care after residential treatment.
