Mission Connection
Overview
Trauma-informed outpatient mental health care with flexible in-person, virtual, and hybrid schedules. Clients receive a free assessment before treatment begins to determine whether a partial hospitalization (PHP) or intensive outpatient program (IOP) may work best for their needs and goals. Individual, group, and family therapy blend evidence-based and holistic approaches such as yoga and art. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), a non-invasive method for treatment-resistant depression, is available. Care staff can connect clients to community resources for continued mental health support before programs end. Mission Connection accepts private insurance and self-pay. Payment assistance and a sliding fee scale may be available.

Who is this facility a good fit for?
Best fit if: Adults looking for structured mental health treatment while living at home; need to schedule treatment around daily responsibilities; want in-person, hybrid, and virtual options; willing to participate in clinical groups and one-on-one therapy; have private insurance or can self-pay (payment assistance and a sliding fee scale may be available).
Not a fit if: Those who need acute, hospital-level care; require detox or 24/7 residential treatment; prefer a self-directed approach; don’t want to participate in therapy and medication management when appropriate; use Medicaid or Medicare and cannot self-pay.
What to expect
Typical schedule
- PHP: Clients attend full-day treatment Monday through Friday, returning home in the evenings and on weekends. This care level consists of six hours of daily groups and one individual therapy session per week.
- IOP: Designed for clients who need structured treatment while attending to work, family, and other daily responsibilities. Clients attend sessions three days per week, with flexible scheduling options including hybrid and virtual care. The program involves three hours of groups on each IOP day, as well as one individual therapy session each week.
- Proven therapies: Evidence-based approaches include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), and emotion-focused therapy (EFT). Mission Connection also offers cognitive processing therapy (CPT), a type of CBT designed to address trauma, and exposure therapy, which involves gradually confronting fears in a safe environment.
- TMS: An FDA-approved method that uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific parts of the brain. This is designed to help those struggling with depression and mood regulation.
- Mindfulness and creativity: Programs allot time for meditation and yoga to help with balance, relaxation, and self-reflection. Art therapy is also offered.
- Skill-building and goal setting: Practical life skills education is woven into outpatient care. Clients also learn how to set SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-bound) goals for everyday life.
“What you're essentially getting is wraparound, holistic care.” - Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego)
Who you will meet with
- Licensed therapists: A primary therapist meets with clients one-on-one. Therapists also lead frequent group sessions. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) are available to provide family and couples counseling.
- Clinicians: Clients who need medication as part of treatment meet with a nurse practitioner every other week to monitor prescriptions and adjust them as needed.
- Social workers: Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) help clients with practical needs. This can include working toward housing, employment, and legal stability.
Developing your care plan
- Free assessment: Before treatment begins, clients can receive a free mental health assessment to determine if the center’s PHP or IOP programs will be a good fit. The assessment takes about 5 to 10 minutes.
- Client-therapist collaboration: At the start of care, clients are assigned an individual therapist who they will work with to create a treatment plan adapted to their needs. Clients are involved in selecting their classes. Adjustments to care plans can be made based on progress and evolving goals.
“A lot of our goals and treatment plans and outcomes are based on [clients’] interaction with each other, interaction with the community.” - Anand Mehta, LMFT, AMFM Executive Director (San Diego)
Aftercare
- Step-down care: Though some clients start treatment with PHP or IOP, others step down to PHP from a residential program. Afterward, they may transition to IOP as a next step at the same location. Staff can then help make arrangements for regular outpatient care, which involves less frequent sessions. Community referrals: Before treatment ends, staff can set clients up with continuing care in their local area. This can include connections to outside therapy and support groups.
