Substance use treatment for adults

While mental health and behavioral health services are available for all ages, substance use services are reserved for adults ages 18 and over. Adults who need structured outpatient care for substance use, including those with co-occurring mental health conditions, can choose between daytime and evening sessions. The Primary Day Group meets Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m., while the Primary Evening Group meets Monday through Thursday from 4:30–8:30 p.m. This setup allows clients to fit treatment into times that work with their daily schedules. The length of the program is variable and depends on individual progress and circumstances.

Care for addiction, mental health, and gambling

Programs are designed to treat substance use disorders, mental health conditions such as anxiety, depression, and trauma, as well as problem gambling disorders. Before treatment begins, each client is given an evidence-based assessment to determine their individual care needs. Services can include psychiatric care when needed, along with substance use counseling and recovery support.

Evidence-based therapies and medication management

Counselors use a combination of evidence-based therapies. These include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing (MI), and motivational incentives. Other approaches include anger management and trauma-related counseling. Medications for addiction treatment (MAT) such as Vivitrol and Suboxone can be prescribed when needed to help ease withdrawal symptoms and cravings. These medications are combined with counseling and monitored by clinical staff.

Virtual options and aftercare

For those who do not have transportation to in-person sessions or prefer to receive care from home, Lakeview Behavioral Health offers telehealth from anywhere within Minnesota. After completing a program, clients can attend a weekly substance use treatment group for alumni on Sundays. Staff can also connect clients with continuing care resources such as mentoring, peer support, housing resources, and social services assistance.
