Phased Approach to Long-Term Recovery

The phased model builds recovery step by step—from residential care to extended and transitional living. Each phase deepens stability and connection, helping clients move from early healing to real-world application. Grounded in relational and attachment-based therapy, this approach treats both substance use and co-occurring mental health conditions while fostering accountability and self-awareness. Clients leave with the tools and confidence to live independently, supported by the relationships and skills built along the way.

Beginning Clinical Healing

Phase One begins at the Lake House on the shores of Utah Lake. Clients enter a highly structured, clinically rigorous schedule with individual and group therapy, weekly psychiatric visits, and 12-Step introduction. Experiential therapies, like a ropes course, equine, art, and music, are used to deepen work on trauma and to help translate insights into daily behaviors.

Secluded, Natural Setting with Hands-On Activities

The Lake House offers a calm, home-like environment with shared or private bedrooms, comfortable common areas, a yoga/meditation studio, and a dedicated music studio. Outdoor grounds include quiet areas for reflection and space for adventure-based activities, underscoring the program’s experiential approach.

Engaging Mind, Body, and Community

Beyond talk therapy, clients engage in experiential modalities like equine work, expressive arts, challenge/ropes activities, music, and mindfulness. Nutrition and daily movement are emphasized to restore energy and mood. Family involvement is a cornerstone, with bi-weekly in-person family programming plus ongoing family sessions help repair communication and align support at home.

Advancing Through the Comprehensive Recovery Phases

The second phase helps clients strengthen executive functioning—time management, budgeting, school/work readiness—while maintaining therapeutic momentum. The third phase focuses on community reintegration with continued clinical support for those who began at Ascend. After discharge, alumni receive free lifetime aftercare with weekly groups and structured check-ins, while a year-long monitoring program supports accountability during the first year.
