Teen Treatment Programs With Step-Down Support
Newport Academy offers a full continuum of care for adolescents in North Carolina. Teens can start in residential treatment, where they stay in private, gender-specific homes set among nature and receive focused 24/7 support. They can then step down to intensive outpatient (IOP) care and partial hospitalization (PHP), which includes small, same-age groups and individual sessions during the day while teens live at home. An in-depth assessment informs an adapted plan for each client, and the range of options helps maintain progress as needs change.
Evidence-Based and Trauma-Focused Care
Care includes therapies such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), and EMDR. Specialized programming addresses trauma, PTSD, and eating disorders. Teens also participate in experiential approaches like equine-assisted therapy, yoga, art and music therapy, mindfulness, and outdoor activities, blending clinical and creative care to build resilience and self-awareness.
Academics and Life Skills Development
Accredited, on-site academic support keeps teens engaged in schoolwork while in treatment. Licensed teachers and tutors provide individualized instruction, ensuring academic goals align with therapeutic progress. Life skills training complements this support, equipping teens with tools such as communication strategies and vocational readiness for success after discharge.
Family Integration and Alumni Support
Attachment-based family therapy and parent workshops are designed to strengthen communication and rebuild relationships at home. This whole-family approach extends healing beyond the individual. After residential care, Newport Academy’s alumni program offers peer connection, regional gatherings, and ongoing counseling, creating continuity of support for both teens and families as teens transition back to daily life.
