Integrated Substance Use and Mental Health Treatment

The center treats substance use disorders alongside mental health needs, including care for co-occurring substance use and serious mental illness. Services are available regardless of a person’s ability to pay, and care can be delivered in clinics, through telehealth, and in community settings. Counseling is available for individuals, groups, couples, and families, with approaches that include cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), motivational interviewing, relapse prevention, anger management, and 12-step facilitation. Transportation assistance is available to help clients access care.

Full Continuum of Care

Substance use recovery services are centered through the EBEL Recovery Center, which offers prevention, outpatient treatment, clinically monitored withdrawal management, and medically monitored residential rehab. Residential substance use treatment is administered at the Benedictine Center on the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital Campus, including a 28-day intensive inpatient program with 30+ hours of programming each week and inpatient withdrawal management when needed. Services are provided in a confidential setting, with an integrated team that includes psychiatry, psychology, addiction counseling, and nursing.

Medications for Addiction Treatment and Same-Day Prioritization

The center offers medications for addiction treatment (MAT) when needed to ease cravings and withdrawal symptoms. These are paired with counseling and behavioral therapies. Clients can start MAT through self-referral or provider referral, often with same-day access after a screening and assessment. Ongoing expectations may include drug screening and random testing, along with education, coping skills, relapse prevention strategies, family support, and case management to help clients maintain long-term recovery.

Practical Long-Term Recovery Support

Recovery support can include aftercare/continuing care, discharge planning, overdose education and naloxone training, outcome follow-up after discharge, self-help groups, peer mentoring, recovery coaching, employment counseling or training, and help connecting to social services. Housing supports are also part of the broader organization’s services, including assisted living and income-based housing options for individuals who qualify — an added layer of stability for people rebuilding routines in recovery.
