What to expect
Developing your care plan
- Initial steps: Treatment begins with a clinical assessment and psychiatric evaluation to identify physical, emotional, and spiritual needs and help the team design the care plan.
- Various types of treatment: Care plans may include individual, group, and family therapy. MAT is also available when clinically indicated. Evidence-based therapy approaches, including cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), are integrated alongside motivational approaches or trauma-specific treatment.
- Other approaches to care: Programming also emphasizes experiential and holistic activities, including mindfulness, recreation therapy, art therapy, and 12-Step facilitation. Pain management may also be integrated into care for clients managing pain alongside substance use.
Who you will meet with
- Psychiatrist: A psychiatrist evaluates and diagnoses mental health conditions and oversees the psychiatric aspects of treatment, including care planning and medication management.
- Psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners: Provide psychiatric evaluations and ongoing mental health care, including monitoring symptoms and adjusting medications.
- Therapists: Therapists lead individual, group, and family therapy sessions.
- Registered nurses: Nursing staff monitors clients’ physical health and supports medication management.
Typical schedule
- Structured daily routine: Exact schedules may vary, but a typical day can include individual and group therapy sessions and educational workshops. Clients typically also have time for recreation and personal reflection.
Living experiences and amenities
- A home-like environment: The air-conditioned facility offers a clean, modern residential setting with private and shared bedrooms and shared bathrooms. Meals are catered, and there’s also a kitchenette with snacks.
- Recreation: Clients share a TV and recreation room as well as outdoor common spaces, such as an outdoor lounge, spacious backyard, shaded pergolas, and walking trails. Other activities include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and alternative recovery meetings.
Aftercare
- Lower levels of care: Icarus offers a PHP and an IOP, giving clients a clear pathway to step-down care at the same facility.
- Other types of support: Staff can also help clients with sober living referrals, ongoing medication management, and therapy. Mentoring and peer support groups are available, and clients can participate in alumni community groups in person or online.
