Focused Support for Survivors

The center is uniquely focused on trauma and substance use care for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Survivors of these situations have often faced substance use coercion, where abusive partners manipulate or control access to substances, worsening both safety and recovery challenges. These and other barriers are addressed by confidential counseling, case management, and safety planning. Clients also receive support with housing, legal advocacy, employment counseling, and transportation.

Trauma-Informed Substance Use Treatment

Substance use treatment is grounded in an understanding of how trauma and addiction often overlap. Counseling is delivered through an informed lens that prioritizes safety, choice, and empowerment. Services include rapid intake to ensure immediate access during vulnerable moments, individualized relapse prevention planning, and therapy that addresses both emotional triggers and patterns of substance use. A 24-hour crisis line is available for individuals to reach out any time.

Mobile Advocacy and Accessibility

Through its Mobile Advocacy Program, the center extends services directly into the community across North Dakota’s Ransom and Sargent counties. Whether meeting at a library, park, or another safe location, advocates provide the same range of services, including legal support, crisis intervention, emotional counseling, and transportation. This flexibility makes it possible for clients to access care in a way that feels safe and practical.

Evidence-Based Therapies

The center uses evidence-based approaches that help clients understand the link between trauma, emotions, and substance use. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) teaches practical skills to challenge harmful thought patterns, while motivational interviewing supports clients in finding their own reasons for change. The Matrix Model offers structure for recovery by combining education and relapse prevention strategies. For those managing alcohol or opioid use, extended-release naltrexone may be incorporated through external providers. Private rooms and telehealth options ensure therapy remains accessible and confidential.

Continuing Care and Recovery Guidance

Clients receive structured discharge planning including naloxone and overdose education. Aftercare services include ongoing counseling, peer referrals, and access to local recovery groups. Employment training, housing assistance, and financial advocacy are offered to help clients regain stability.
