Newport Academy
Overview
Newport Academy provides residential care for teens ages 12–18 struggling with mental health, including those addressing co-occurring substance use. Teens stay in gender-specific, home-like environments and receive one-on-one, group, and attachment-based family therapy centered around evidence-based methods. As part of treatment, clients participate in outdoor activities such as hiking, rock climbing, and equine therapy. A Restorative Setting for Teen Recovery
Each gender-specific campus is designed to help teens step away from the pressures of home, school, and social stress. Residences are comfortable and structured, with shared bedrooms, communal living rooms, and natural lighting that supports a calm environment. Teens spend time in dedicated spaces for yoga, meditation, art, and group sessions. This peaceful setting is designed to reduce distractions, lower stress levels, and help teens stay focused on building healthier habits and emotional stability.
Adventure Therapy and Outdoor Activities
Adventure therapy gives teens fun ways to build confidence, teamwork, and emotional regulation through physical movement and time outdoors. These include hiking, mindfulness walks, and group challenges. Off-site outings may include activities like rock climbing, kayaking, or ropes-based exercises, allowing teens to practice problem-solving and communication in unfamiliar settings. On campus, teens also engage in gardening, nature-based reflection, and outdoor yoga.
Integrated Academics and Daily Support
The program offers accredited academics so teens can maintain school progress while in treatment. Licensed teachers and tutors provide individualized support, coordinate with home schools, and help teens rebuild executive-functioning skills such as organization, time management, and study habits. Daily schedules weave academics into a full therapeutic routine, ensuring teens experience consistency and predictability. This integration helps reduce academic setbacks and supports a smoother transition back to the classroom.
Family Connection and Transition Planning
Families work directly with therapists through regular attachment-based sessions aimed at strengthening communication, repairing conflict, and building shared coping strategies. These sessions help families understand underlying mental health challenges and create supportive structures at home. As discharge approaches, the treatment team develops a personalized aftercare plan that may include outpatient care, virtual therapy options, academic reintegration support, and recommendations for local providers. This planning ensures teens maintain momentum after returning home, and families feel prepared with concrete steps, resources, and communication tools.
