Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking a trauma-informed residential program; need withdrawal management (detox); balancing treatment with professional obligations; looking for individualized care with long-term alumni connection; using private insurance.

  • Not a fit if: Those who require acute hospital-level medical treatment; seeking a self-directed approach or outpatient-only approach; not interested in daily therapy; have Medicaid, or are uninsured and unable to self pay.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • Detailed assessments: When treatment starts, staff gather information on clients’ physical health, housing situation, mental health, and any legal and professional needs. This all helps inform treatment plans.
  • Care centered on individual needs: The core team meets every morning to discuss each client’s individual needs and make adjustments to their treatment plan.
  • Balancing real life: If someone needs time to check work emails or attend an online class, they coordinate with case managers who can make that happen.

“It's one thing to provide evidence-based treatment… and that's what we do. But beyond that, we're really looking at the individual who's coming in... how can we specifically address those issues more than a carbon copy of each person getting treatment.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer”

Who you will meet with

  • Doctors and nurses: During withdrawal management (detox) a medical team monitors clients 24/7 to take care of their health, as well as provide and adjust medications for addiction treatment (MAT).
  • Primary therapist: Each person is assigned a therapist to work with one-on-one. Primary therapists can also maintain contact with family members if desired. Intensive therapy is held twice per week, with optional weekly family therapy.
  • Case manager: Clients meet individually with case managers who handle practical life needs such as FMLA paperwork, finances, and housing.
  • Alumni coordinator: These staff members keep in contact after discharge to keep people connected to long-term recovery resources.

Typical schedule

  • First 72 hours: In the withdrawal management phase, clients can focus on resting and coordinate with the medical team to get through withdrawal symptoms as comfortably as possible.
  • Mornings: The day starts between 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. Medications are dispensed to those who need them. Then, clients have breakfast together.
  • Intensive daily schedule: Between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, clients attend groups and daily individual therapy. More intensive therapeutic sessions are held twice per week.
  • Traditional and holistic approaches: Along with evidence-based therapy such as CBT and DBT, activities include yoga, mindfulness, art, and music therapy.
  • Downtime: Clients can relax, spend time with peers, or watch TV in their rooms.
  • Evening 12-step groups: Twelve step (AA/NA) speakers host meetings at the center to introduce clients to the community and provide ongoing support.

“You're in their daily life with them, and that really allows for the level of intimacy for that connection, for people to feel safe, to be able to do the work that they need to do.” — Dr. Alison Tarlow, Psy.D, Chief Clinical Officer

Living experiences and amenities

  • Personal and shared spaces: Private and shared bedroom options are available, with comfortable bedding and a TV in each room. Peers can spend time together in a spacious common area filled with board games and books.
  • Movie theater and barber shop: Clients can watch films in a movie theater room. A barber often visits the facility to give clients haircuts in a dedicated on-site space.
  • Recreation: For fun, there is a game room with a ping-pong table and arcade cabinet. There is also a basketball court and a fitness center.
  • Meals and snacks: An in-house chef prepares daily meals, and there is continuous access to a snack bar.

Aftercare

  • Transitions: After residential care, clients who need the next level of care can step down to outpatient treatment. Staff can help arrange this to make sure the transition is smooth and care is uninterrupted. Case managers also help find support in clients’ home neighborhoods.
  • Ongoing support: Weekly alumni groups are hosted on Zoom, and the center manages private social media pages where former clients can talk and support one another.
  • Alumni community: Alumni can get together for sober social events. Former clients in long-term recovery often return to the facility to share their post-treatment successes.
