Who is this facility a good fit for?

  • Best fit if: Adults seeking structured PHP or an IOP; needing support for substance use and co-occurring mental health needs; looking for an outpatient program with optional housing; who are interested in a mix of talk-based and hands-on treatment; seeking a gradual transition back to everyday life.

  • Not a fit if: Adults needing withdrawal management (detox), inpatient treatment, or 24-hour residential treatment.

What to expect

Developing your care plan

  • A collaborative process: A free initial phone assessment is used to determine if this program is the right fit. When clients are admitted, an assigned therapist completes a 90-minute assessment to learn more about their challenges and needs. Clients identify goals they want to work toward and collaborate with their therapist to determine how to meet those goals.
  • A range of treatment approaches: Care plans can include various approaches to treatment. Individual and group counseling using evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), are complemented by holistic and experiential approaches. MAT is available when clinically indicated.

Who you will meet with

  • Therapists: Clients meet with an individual therapist for weekly one-hour sessions. Therapists also lead group programming.
  • Psychiatric providers: These professionals perform medication management and can offer support throughout treatment.
  • Case managers: Case managers provide another point of support during treatment and may help support clients in connecting with outside programs and preparing for discharge.
  • Alumni coordinator: The alumni coordinator becomes especially important after treatment. They provide resources, offer periodic outreach, and organize opportunities for alumni to reconnect with the program.

Typical schedule

  • *Mornings in the PHP: The PHP hours are Monday–Saturday, from 9:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Clients attend a morning group, where they check-in and debrief. This is followed by mid-morning psychoeducation. These sessions are therapist-led and include discussions alongside presentations, activities, and handouts.
  • Afternoons in the PHP: After lunch, clients in the PHP attend afternoon experiential psychoeducation, which includes activities such as art, music, and movement.
  • Sunday is Community Day: Community Day is every Sunday from 10 a.m.–3 p.m. During this time, the facility hosts planned recreational activities and outings and provides catered lunch to clients in the PHP. This day is intentionally different, focusing specifically on social connection and shared activities.
  • IOP options: The IOP offers a number of flexible options. Morning sessions are offered Monday–Friday, from 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. There’s also an evening virtual program from Monday–Friday, 6–9 p.m. Clients can decrease gradually their attendance from five days to four, three, and two days a week to prepare to graduate the program.

Living experiences and amenities

  • Outpatient program with optional housing: The program at Tampa Bay Recovery Center is an outpatient program, but supportive housing may be available for $800 per month for those who need it. Clients can either commute to the outpatient program from home or stay in the optional housing.
  • Comfortable, boutique setting: The facility itself is bright and comfortable, with close proximity to beaches, shopping, scenic attractions, and 12-Step meetings.

Aftercare

  • Integrated step-down options: Clients can transition from the PHP to the IOP as they progress, then participate in less frequent IOP sessions where they establish support outside of formal treatment.
  • Connecting clients with outside resources: The facility helps clients connect with therapists and local support groups and meetings.
  • Alumni coordinators: Alumni coordinators maintain periodic contact and organize alumni activities, outings, and meetings.
