Non-12-Step substance use treatment with co-occurring mental health support

The center offers an alternative pathway for clients who do not want to follow a traditional 12-Step framework. Programs are led by doctors and combine evidence-based therapies with medications for addiction treatment (MAT) when appropriate. Care for co-occurring mental health conditions like anxiety, depression, and mood disorders is also provided. Some of the proven approaches used by therapists are cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), motivational interviewing (MI), and trauma-focused eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR).

Holistic options

Along with evidence-based therapies, programs offer fitness and nutrition classes, yoga, art and music therapy, and recreational activities. Clients also participate in life skills training in subjects such as stress management, building healthy routines, and strengthening physical wellness. These offerings combine to help set clients up for long-term recovery success.

Personalized care

Treatment plans are adapted to each client’s unique needs. When clients first enter the program, they complete detailed assessments of their medical history, current symptoms, and level of substance use, former treatment experiences, and personal goals. Care staff can then take these results and work with clients to formulate an individualized plan. Plans can be reassessed and altered according to client progress and evolving needs.

Family integration

When desired by the client, loved ones can stay involved through weekly family therapy sessions. They can also attend weekly educational groups held specifically for family members. These groups explore topics such as family dynamics, understanding addiction, improving communication, and ways loved ones can help support recovery after treatment ends.

Aftercare and lifetime alumni support

Before clients leave treatment, staff help set them up with a discharge plan that is tailored to their specific needs. This can include relapse prevention strategies and referrals to further counseling. Clients who graduate from a PHP or IOP at Turning Point Centers Sandy Outpatient have access to a long-term alumni network. Members can participate in weekly meetings led by peers, as well as quarterly sober events such as camping trips, bowling, and barbecues. They can also join sports leagues such as volleyball and softball within the community.
