Sandstone Care Treatment Center in Buffalo Grove, IL recognizes the unique challenges that young people face by offering age-specific treatment for 13-18 year old teens and 18-30 year old young adults.. From social media and relationships to exploring one’s identity, staff integrate these real world issues into outpatient substance treatment. Outpatient programs include partial hospitalization program (PHP) and intensive outpatient program (IOP), with strong emphasis on individual, group, and family therapies to help clients develop, practice, and apply new skills and healthy coping mechanisms.

Empowering Self-Reliance

  • Academic vocational advisor available to teens for tutoring, homework help, and test prep.
  • Advisors provide young adults with career support, from identifying their professional interests to resume building.
  • Working on soft skills to present clients’ best selves.
  • For young adults in the Transitional Living Program, staff can help residents with rides or accessing transit to reach work.

Applied Learning Approach

  • Learn and practice skills, such as communication and distress tolerance, with daily support regardless of how each day goes.
  • Daily PHP check-in provides clients with time to review how they applied new skills the day before, what worked well and what could go better, and set intentions for the day.
  • Psychoeducation group is a time to practice with each other before applying new skills in the real world.
  • Individual therapy allows clients to establish trust and rapport with a primary therapist.

Comprehensive Family Engagement

  • IOP weekly multifamily group therapy brings clients’ families together to learn from each other and grow together.
  • Individual family therapy is biweekly in IOP and is a time for clients and their families to practice new skills.

Accessible Outpatient Treatment

  • PHP is a high-level of support with 5 days of treatment per week for 4 weeks.
  • IOP is a step down from PHP and allows more time for daily work and school responsibilities, with 4 days of treatment per week for 10-12 weeks.
  • IOP has distinct adolescent and young adult tracks, with 18 year-old clients placed based on maturity and other factors.
  • Clients who complete IOP can move on to the general outpatient program and engage with the alumni group.
