Family-Centered, Teen-Focused Care
Care plans are built around the needs of both teens and their families. Licensed clinicians use attachment-based family therapy (ABFT) to help strengthen relationships strained by anxiety, depression, trauma, or substance use. Family sessions focus on communication, boundaries, and emotional safety, while separate parent groups offer education on mental health and substance use. Families learn practical strategies to support recovery at home, turning difficult conversations into collaborative problem-solving.
Flexible Schedules and Virtual Options
The center offers multiple levels of outpatient care designed for accessibility and consistency. The partial hospitalization program (PHP) runs five full days per week, offering structured clinical and academic programming for teens who need daily support but can safely live at home. The intensive outpatient program (IOP) meets in the afternoons, typically three to five days weekly, allowing students to maintain school attendance. For Wisconsin families outside commuting distance, Newport’s virtual IOP mirrors in-person care through secure telehealth sessions.
Integrated Academics
Teens attend on-site academic sessions led by accredited educators who coordinate with each student’s home school. Whether a student has school avoidance, attendance issues, or credit concerns, the program’s educational liaisons ensure coursework and therapeutic goals align. Tutoring, study support, and executive-function coaching help teens regain confidence in learning and classroom participation. This academic structure gives students a sense of normalcy while addressing mental health challenges that often disrupt school performance.
Creative and Experiential Therapies
In the center’s art and music studios, participants explore expression through painting, songwriting, and performance. Yoga, journaling, and mindfulness build grounding skills, while adventure therapies use real-world experiences — like hiking in nearby parks or canoeing on the Fox River — to strengthen teamwork and confidence. These activities cultivate calm, connection, and purpose, offering adolescents tangible ways to apply coping strategies.
Planning for What Comes Next
Before the program ends, teens and parents receive guidance on step-down options, including local outpatient therapy or virtual programs. Education liaisons coordinate with home schools for reintegration, while clinicians develop relapse-prevention and communication plans. Families are invited to join Newport’s national Alumni Program, which offers virtual and in-person meetups, support groups, and “Stories of Hope” webinars.
