Overview
Newport Academy provides residential and outpatient care for teens ages 12–18 experiencing mental health concerns and substance use. Along with evidence-based therapy, including individual, group, and family therapy, teens enjoy group activities like rock climbing, seasonal water activities, creative arts, and yoga. Academic support is woven into treatment plans to make sure teens stay on track with their schoolwork while receiving care.

Focused Care for Teens and Families
Newport Academy treats adolescents ages 12–18 for anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, and co-occurring substance use. All treatment plans are designed to help teens regain emotional stability and rebuild healthy family relationships. Programs blend group, individual, and family therapy with academic and life-skills practice. The structure helps teens develop self-regulation and accountability. Relapse prevention and recovery education provide strategies for recognizing triggers and maintaining progress. Evidence-Based and Coordinated Treatment
Treatment plans are adapted to each teen based on comprehensive clinical and medical assessments. Therapists use evidence-based modalities such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) informed skills, eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) for trauma, and Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT). Licensed clinicians provide individual, family, and group sessions, with psychiatric evaluation and medication management available when needed. For teens with primary substance use issues, therapy includes psychoeducation guided by American Society of Addiction Medicine (ASAM) criteria.
Family Engagement and Academic Support
The participation of loved ones is central to the center’s recovery approach. Family therapy sessions and parent education groups help caregivers understand their teen’s treatment process and improve communication at home. Academic support is built in, with accredited instruction and tutoring to close learning gaps and rebuild confidence. Teens receive help with organization, executive-functioning skills, and motivation, ensuring they stay on track academically while focusing on mental health. Coordination with teens’ home schools supports a smooth return to regular classes.
Experiential and Adventure-Based Healing
Experiential therapies help teens apply what they learn in counseling to real-world settings. Activities include yoga and mindfulness, as well as creative outlets like art and music therapy. Teens can also enjoy equine-assisted therapy, which encourages non-verbal healing through guided interactions with horses. Outdoor and adventure therapy such as ropes courses, hiking, whale watching, and survival skills training encourage teamwork, problem-solving, and reflection. These experiences reinforce emotional growth and confidence while helping teens find healthy outlets for stress and connection.
