Prioritizing Education with Treatment
To set teens up for success, treatment and education happen side by side. The outpatient program is built around the Newport Academy model, where teens receive evidence-based therapy while continuing their academic progress in a structured, supportive setting. Dedicated education staff coordinate directly with schools and guide teens through coursework during the treatment day so they don’t fall behind while getting help. This approach eases the stress that often comes with stepping away from school and helps teens maintain a sense of routine, motivation, and future direction. For families, it offers a path to care that doesn't require choosing between school and mental health. The model is especially effective for students struggling with school avoidance, anxiety, or trauma that’s interfering with learning.
Family Involvement as a Foundation for Healing
Outpatient programs work with teens’ families to shift the dynamic from blame to collaboration. Through structured family therapy, parent support groups, and education, families are taught how to communicate more effectively, set healthy boundaries, and support their child’s progress without taking on the entire burden of fixing it. The goal is lasting change, not just symptom relief, and that starts with helping families grow stronger together.
Experiential Therapies That Build Confidence
Teens engage in creative and active experiences designed to support emotional expression, self-esteem, and regulation. Activities like equine-assisted therapy, music and art therapy, and yoga are paired with outdoor-based adventure therapy — such as ropes courses, kayaking, hiking, and more — facilitated by trained professionals. These experiences give teens a chance to move beyond their comfort zones in safe, supportive ways while learning collaboration, resilience, and joy in recovery.
A Model Designed for Teen Recovery
Outpatient care is built on a structured, evidence-based model tailored specifically to adolescents. Each treatment plan is informed by in-depth assessment and delivered by a team that includes therapists, psychiatrists, experiential specialists, and academic professionals. Teens engage in talk therapy modalities and Attachment-Based Family Therapy, resulting in a treatment experience that not only helps teens process trauma and manage mental health challenges but also equips them with tools and life skills to thrive.
